Muhammad Anwar Abbasi, born on July 02, 1940 in the village of Neela Butt, Bagh, Azad Jammu & Kashmir, is a writer, thinker and an Islamic scholar. Islamic economics is his particular area of interest.


Muhammad Anwar Abbasi attained his primary education in his native village.

After Matriculation, he moved to Karachi for higher studies.

He earned B. Com (hons.) in 1963 and did his Masters in Economics in 1965 and in Islamic Studies from Karachi University in 1967.

Mr Abbasi then went to Saudi Arabia in pursuit of his bright career and served for more than 20 years in Saudi Hollandi Bank as Chief Accountant. On retirement in 1988, he shifted to Islamabad for permanent settlement.


Research work

“Aishariya-e-Afkaar-e-Maudoodi”, A comprehensive subject-wise index of all published material of Syed Abul Aala Maudoodi including his speeches, letters & interviews.
“Insaniyat Hidayat Ki Talaash Main”, is an analytical study of human knowledge from the period of Aristotle till the present day scholars, leading us to divine knowledge.

“Bank Interest: Profit or Riba” portrays a complete paradigm shift from the orthodox and popular view of bank interest.


Currently, he is a member of Board of Directors and Chairman of Finance Committee of READ Foundation

He is also an Executive Director of Kashmir Information and Research Centre Islamabad.


Muhammad Anwar Abbasi has three sons, and lives with his wife, in Islamabad.
